2017 AFCON 7 players pull out of Cameroon squad

Ahead of 2017 AFCON, seven players have pulled out of the Cameroon's squad.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have been dealt a heavy blow ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Cameroon are in Group A with host Gabon, Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau.

Ahead of the tournament, seven players on their 35-man provisional squad including Premier League stars Joel Matip and Allan Nyom have pulled out.

Liverpool defender Matip, West Brom’s Nyom, Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Andre Onana, Guy Roland Ndy Assembe of Nancy, Andre Zambo Anguissa from Olympique Marseille,  Maxime Poundje of Bordeaux and Ibrahim Amadou from Lille have all withdrawn from the squad.

Since falling out with former Cameroon coaches, Liverpool defender Matip has chosen to continue his self-imposed exile from the Indomitable Lions while Onana, Assembe, Nyom have opted out to remain with their respective clubs.

Cameroon’s FA have a choice to report the players to FIFA.

The Indomitable Lions’ first game at the 2017 AFCON will be against Burkina Faso on Saturday, January 14.
