Adekunle Fasasi Nigerian sprinter closes in African record in 400m

Fasasi, representing the University of Florida in the competition ran 45.57 seconds in the semi-final of the event.

Former Nigeria junior international Adekunle Fasasi closed in on an African record with a 45.57 seconds finish in 400m indoor at the Collegiate of Athletics Association (NCAA) Indoor Championships at College Station in Texas on Sunday, March 12.

Fasasi, representing the University of Florida in the competition ran 45.57 seconds in the semi-final of the event.

Fasasi who won bronze for Nigeria in 400m at the 2015 African Junior Athletics Championships in Addis Ababa, was however disqualified in the final.

With his 45.47 seconds finish in the 400m, Fasasi becomes the second fastest African in that event.

Late Nigerian runner, Sunday Bada remains the record holder with a 45.51-seconds finish to win the IAAF World Indoor Championship 400m gold in Paris, France in 1997.
