Swedish ski cross champion Anna Holmlund, who suffered a horror fall in training last month, is still in a coma but her condition has improved, her country's ski federation said on Monday.

The 2014 Olympic bronze medallist and double World Cup champion was put into a coma after being airlifted from the slopes after sustaining head injuries at Innichen in northern Italy in mid-December.

"Her health has improved and she has been moved out of intensive care," a statement said. "She can now breathe without assistance although she remains in a coma," Jakob Swanberg, Swedish team doctor, said.

The 29-year-old underwent brain surgery in Italy before being transferred to Stockholm in late December.

Ski cross, which made its Olympic debut at Vancouver in 2010, consists of lining up four skiers at the same time on a course made of large bumps and narrow turns.
