Pulse Album Review Princess Vitarah is gutter royalty on "Too much talent"

This project is a chore to listen, and it subtracts from itself at every point. But don’t tell that Vitarah. She knows, you know, we know.

Princess Vitarah sucks. There’s no way on earth that you can spin the story about her talent to show positivity. She is a bad artist. She knows. You know. We know.

And that’s why she has resorted to other forms of gimmicks to get her music in our ears. She picks a beat, pours near-comic but depressingly raw sexuality into her music, and passes it off for shock value. Nigerians love shock value, and they will do everything within their power to listen to her, be outraged by it, and blast her in numerous comment sections.

But they listen, we listen, she listens. That’s the win she has been searching for. And although her artistic credentials might never be taken seriously, the world is aware of her music and how she loves to polarize people. Princess Vitarah has sang about ‘Nigerian pussy’, screamed ‘I want 20 inch dick’ to whoever listens, attacked Tiwa Savage, and has a song on this project titled ‘Fuck me’.

Way to go sister. Way to go. This isn’t royal stuff. But people talk about the Princess Vitarah now.

Her debut album, “Too Much Talent”, has her clutching her breasts, which were covered by a Nigerian flag. In many ways, it’s the ultimate L to this proud country. One of our daughters isn’t repping us right. If anything, she is a source of shame to many.

As expected the music isn’t great. Most records are unfinished, tapering off after the 2-minute mark. The lyrics are delivered with little verve, as Princess Vitarah never takes herself and the music seriously. The beat on ‘Hoes study me but they can’t graduate’, would have made a fine trap song, but for the incoherent mixing and mastering.

‘Fuck me’ sits pretty as one of her single material. It is dipped in sex, and ends with her moaning ‘fuck me’. It comes from a  place of perversion. ‘Everybody is African’ bites its base from the Nigerian local sounds, but the delivery is wack and the production discordant. There’s still space for her to brag on ‘So much to do’ and ‘Blessed’.

This project is a chore to listen, and it subtracts from itself at every point. But don’t tell that Vitarah. She knows, you know, we know.

But she doesn’t care. She doesn’t care at all.
