Lil Kesh is on his way to releasing his debut studio album, “Y.A.G.I” (Young And Getting It), and the music releases are coming up fast.

The young singer who broke even with the hit song ‘Shoki’, in 2014 is now a force in Nigerian music, after a string of well-received songs. He is set to engrave his gains on the walls of the Nigerian music industry with a new album, hence his immense work this year has been directed to getting the needed attention for the album.

‘Cause Trouble’, his new song which has two parts is his latest offering to fans. Produced by YBNL’s in-house music maker, Pheelz, the rapper employs the services of Ycee on part one, and brings in the heavy arsenal on the second part – US rapper Wale of Maybach Music.

‘Cause Trouble’ is a good single, with Pheelz employing traditional war chant samples to underline the dynamic beat, lush synths and drum patterns. It is in line with Lil Kesh’s direct approach to rap which has been instrumental in his rise to fame.

A confrontational song which employs lyrical braggadocio and pugnacity as a front, the rapper follows thematic confrontation as the main idea behind the single. He flows through, beats his chest, and injects his ego with steroids, a move that would connect deeply with young fans.

What really baffles is his penchant to bring on other rappers on the track. Without the featured acts, i is a song that possesses enough dynamism to be a hit. Lil Kesh came through in every department, skillfully handling the hook and verses.

But due to his quest for stardust, and more verve, he brought on Ycee and Wale, with different effects.

Ycee offers little by way of star power, but what he dovetails with the beat, and drops a relatable verse, that blends in seamlessly into the effort of Lil Kesh. This is also a statement of alignment of the young kings of Nigerian rap. Ycee and Lil Kesh atre part of a new generation of stars, and working together brings their varying and overlapping fan base to one track.

What Ycee lacks, Wale possesses in abundance. The US rapper has been on a journey to identify with local acts from his motherland. , who looks up to the Maybach star as a man to emulate. But away from these, Wale struggles to flow into the beat. Although he stciks to the theme, and showed an understanding of the creative direction of the single, his delivery sounds labored and at times disjointed. This is a beat he could do without.
