Ramadan to end today if new moon is sighted

The 2016 Ramadan might end today, if the crescent moon of Shawwal is found.

In a statement, issued by the Secretary General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Professor Is-shaq Oloyede, said the sighting of the crescent moon would signify the Eid-el-fitri (the end of Ramadan), DailyTrust reports.

If this moon is seen today, the 2016 Ramadan will end today.

According to the statement, tomorrow (July 5, 2016) will be declared as the first day of Shawwal (new month).

Muslims are advised to fast for six days between the second and the end of Shawwal,pray and hold onto the gains of the sacred month.
