Reject fear for God loves you just the way you are

1 John 4:18 - "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love" (ESV).

Do you feel like your sin is too big for God to forgive, so you turn away from Him?

Are you constantly afraid that God does not love you anymore because of the magnitude of your sin?

Well, today's devotional is for you.

Genesis recounts how Adam and Eve fell for the Devil's lies and ate the forbidden fruit, which led to them feeling ashamed and turning away from God.

Genesis 3:8-10 says; "Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

This is exactly how we feel when we have sinned.

We turn away from Him, rather than turn to Him with repentant hearts and a willingness to change.

How can we change this pattern of turning away to turning to God?

We do this by remembering and holding unto His Words, which say that He will never leave us because He loves us conditionally.

Romans 8:37-39 says; "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

In fact, He loved us so much He sent His beloved son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins.

Romans 5:8 reminds us of this by saying; "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Remembering how much God loves us gives every sinner (all human beings, because we have all sinned and fallen short of His glory) gives us the confidence to ask for forgiveness, rather than dwelling on our sin.

This is confirmed in 1 John 4:18, which says; "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love" (ESV).

Reject fear today, and remember always that He loves you, sins, imperfections and all!
