Sultan of Sokoto directs Muslims to continue fast

Muslims have been urged to continue the Ramadan fast today (July 5, 2016).

On Monday (July 4, 2016), Muslims were directed to seek the crescent moon, signifying the Eid-el-fitri (the end of Ramadan).

In a statement, signed by Professor Sambo Wali, the Chairman, Religious Affairs Committee, Sultanate Council, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, directed Muslims to continue the fast.

He also declared that Eid el-fitr would be observed on Wednesday, July 6, 2016.

"Sequel to this development, the sultan has approved the reports of the non sighting of the moon and duly declared that the moon of Ramadan has completed its 30 -day circle.

Consequently, Wednesday, July 6 is the first day of Shawwal, 1437 AH, and Eid al-Fitr day,”  the statement read.
