'Ignore prophets of doom, focus only on the Lord and our neighbor', Pontiff says

Christians have been urged to put their focus on God, and neighbours, in spite of preachers of doom.

Bearing all of this in mind, Pope Francis has encouraged believers to ignore these, Crux reports.

Rather, the Catholic leader urges everyone to focus on only the important things: "The Lord and our neighbor.”

According to him, people need to disregard preachers, who use “God’s name to frighten, to nourish division and fear," and concentrate on “the word of wisdom that God speaks to us each day."

“Those who follow Jesus pay no heed to prophets of doom, the nonsense of horoscopes, or frightening sermons that distract from the truly important things,” he added.

In honour of the Jubilee for the Socially Excluded, Pope Francis gave the poor (our neighbours) VIP seats during the Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, in Rome.

He also advised people to stop excluding, rejecting or marginalising the poor as these “anesthetized consciences,” who 'no longer see the brother or sister suffering at our side, or notice the grave problems in our world,' is worrisome.

The pope reminded everyone that all possessions “will inevitably pass away," thus, it is important to focus on what is truly important, the Lord and our neighbour (the poor.)

"We immediately think of concrete people, yet the human person, set by God at the pinnacle of creation, is often discarded in favor of ephemeral things, and this is unacceptable.

Even the strongest kingdoms, the most sacred buildings and the surest realities of this world do not last forever; sooner or later they fall," he added.

Pope Francis’ words were part of his homily during the mass.
