Reuters reports that the famous property, located in Holmby Hills, west of Los Angeles, was sold for $100M to Daren Metropoulo, a principal at private equity firm, Metropoulos & Co. and co-owner of Hostess Brands.
A news release from a representative for Metropoulos stated that the 1927 Gothic Tudor-style mansion was bought for it's "rich and storied legacy" and "masterpiece" design.
The release also said that Hefner, the previous owner, will continue to live in the mansion for the rest of his life, while revealing the new owner's plans to connect the property with a neighboring estate "at some point after Mr Hefner's tenancy ends."
"I feel fortunate and privileged to now own a one-of-a-kind piece of history and art. I look forward to eventually rejoining the two estates and enjoying this beautiful property as my private residence for years to come," Metropoulos said.
Features of the 5-acre property include 29 rooms, a tennis court, heated swimming pool, grotto and has a zoo license.
This has been recorded as the most expensive sale in Los Angeles County history.
