Senator Saraki, represented by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Housing, Barnabas Gemade, stressed the importance of getting rid corruption in this industry, adding that it would only prevent growth and development.
“As managers of land, buildings and other facilities, you are in a prime position to develop effective strategies that will cleanse the industry and make it attractive enough for meaningful collaborations.
A situation whereby the real sector is riddled with cases of inflation of rents, over-priced land, lack of integrity and sundry corruption cannot augur well for the development of the industry", he said.
Saraki also said the Legislature was willing to work with the real estate sector, in order "to encourage city growth and stimulate urban development.”
In 2015, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Olorugun James Omeru, made a similar plea.
Just like Saraki, the NIESV boss urged members to avoid all forms of corruption.
“This sector of our practice is obviously the one that has mostly put us in bad light in the public domain. While it is known that the practice of agency is open to all as at now, it is also true that it is a sector that can easily set us apart from the quacks if our members will act professionally in their dealings", he said.
