The governor made the comment when he was reminded of his initial support for Sheriff.
“That’s one of the worst political decisions I’ve ever taken,” Wike said during an interview on Channels TV.
“I know that he does not mean well for the party. We see that he’s a mole in the party,” he added when asked why he would not support Sheriff.
Wike and Ekiti State counterpart, Ayo Fayose pushed for Sheriff to become chairman in February 2016 but eventually withdrew their support for him in May.
“We have seen that there is a hidden agenda. But nobody can destroy the PDP. PDP will wax stronger,” Wike said in May 2016.
“Those around the former acting National Chairman have questionable character. They are people who think that they can use the judiciary to cause crisis. In my entire political career, I have never seen a man with many opponents as Senator Sheriff. Modu Sheriff should apologize to the party,” Wike added.
Sheriff however vowed not to let Fayose and Wike hijack the party.
The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, on Friday, February 17, 2017, ruled that Sheriff was the lawful occupant of the office.
However, the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party has said that it will challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.
The PDP has been split into two factions since May 2016 when some members attempted to remove Sheriff from the position of Chairman.
