How Obasanjo tore his PDP membership card on February 16, 2015 [VIDEO]

The incident happened when Oladunjoye and other PDP members visited the former president at his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

On his instruction, a PDP member in Abeokuta tears Obasanjo's PDP membership card.

Obasanjo didn’t do the tearing himself, but instructed a PDP ward leader, Surajudeen Oladunjoye to rip the card apart while he watched.

The incident happenedwhen Oladunjoye and other PDP members visited the former president at his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In explaining the action on Tuesday, February 17, Obasanjo said that the party members had visited him to ask why he was no longer active.

He said they also warned him that the party leadership was planning to expel him, so he handed his card to Oladunjoye and told him to do whatever he wanted with it.

“If the issue is the party, I will not choose the party at the detriment of Nigeria and I will fight for Nigeria even at the detriment of the party. I will rather surrender my membership of the party so you people can move on politically,”Obasanjo said narrating the exchange between himself and the PDP members.

“If you people’s worry is that I’m a card-carrying member of the party and I’m not showing you people direction and you are worried that I’m neither here nor there, this is the card; you can keep it, you can burn it or you can tear it, do whatever you want to do with it,” he added, according to Premium Times.

Obasanjo also told Premium Times that he had no regrets for his actions.

The card tearing happened two days after Obasanjo criticized former president Goodluck Jonathan for wanting to win the 2015 elections by “hook or crook.”

“President Jonathan has a grand plan to ensure that he wins the election by hook or crook and if he loses, he scuttles it and brings chaos and confusion in the whole country. It looks to me that the President is trying to play (Laurent) Gbagbo," Obasanjo said.

Jonathan eventually lost the 2015 elections and conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari.
