Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has alleged that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi is planning to rig the Rivers rerun election.

Wike also said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already given Amaechi the original result sheets of the election coming up on December 10, 2016.

According to Daily Post, the Governor said the minister revealed the plan to Rivers APC chieftains in Abuja on Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

Wike also claimed to have the proceedings of Amaechi’s meeting with the party leaders.

The Governor said this on Wednesday, November 24, 2016, while launching the construction of the Ulakwo II-Afara–Nihi road in Etche Local Government Area.

Wike said “While we are working for the people of Rivers State to convince them to vote for us, the APC is busy working with INEC to rig the rerun elections .

“Amaechi told them at the illegal meeting that Sheriff is working for them (APC ) and that they have finished PDP. Sheriff cannot finish PDP, he can only finish himself.

“On December 10, follow your results bumper to bumper. Don’t allow anyone to swap results. I urge the people to follow their results”

Wike alleged that the APC has made plans with security agencies to arrest the Chairmen of Etche and Ikwerre Local Governments to pave way for their rigging.

The Governor also called on indigenes of Etche to resist any plans by INEC to rig the election, adding that he will stand with them.

He said “Tell them, INEC you cannot rig election in Etche. Tell INEC, you cannot support another party to rig the election.”

Speaking on the issue of those arrested while printing fake INEC result sheets in Rivers, the Governor said there are plans to let them go free.

Wike said they have been “transferred to Zone 6 Police Command headquarters in Calabar where arrangements have been concluded to take them to Abuja for the Director of Public Prosecution at the Federal Ministry of Justice to formally release them in line with the request of APC.”

INEC recently fixed December 10, 2016 to hold the Rivers state rerun election following the Senate's threat to stop sitting.
