The police will use dogs and horses to maintain law and order during the Ondo elections, Inspector General, Ibrahim Idris has said.

26,000 personnel, three helicopters, 12 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and 20 gunboats will also be deployed for use during the polls.

Idris disclosed this on Tuesday, November 22, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, the state capital.

“We will dominate areas especially the waterways together with the Navy. We are going to support the deployment along the major ways with 20 gun boats. We are going to ensure we have security along the waterways,” the police IG said.

“We are going to use dogs and horses especially to protect the INEC headquarters. We are going to reinforce the police officers with three helicopters to cover each senatorial district.

“We are bringing 300 vehicles to assist us in patrolling the state. Purely for this election, we are going to deploy a commissioner of police for each senatorial district and the whole operation is going to be coordinated by Deputy Inspector General Police of Operation.

“Each of the police officer for the election will carry a tag. So if we see you outside with police or military uniform in an area that you are not supposed to be even as a serving police officer or a serving military, you are going to be arrested and be dealt with.
