APC accuses INEC of working with PDP to rig poll

A youth group had earlier called on INEC to block loopholes that could compromise the integrity of the election.

INEC Official

The party alleged that State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Segun Agbaje, and the Administrative Secretary of INEC, Kabir Omosanya, are working with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to manipulate figures.

According to Punch, the Ondo APC Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya said “There is something fundamentally wrong with the INEC in Ondo State, which needs to be investigated by the security agencies. INEC ought to be an unbiased umpire in any electoral process, but sadly it is not so in Ondo State.

“We are not comfortable with the plans by Agbaje and Omosanya, who have been working with a faction of the PDP.  We seem to have lost confidence in the ability of these two main principal officers of INEC to organise and create a conducive atmosphere for a free and fair election in the state due to their past records.”

The INEC Ondo REC, however debunked the allegations, saying “The APC should substantiate their allegations with facts. We are doing what we are supposed to do as an electoral commission. They should not malign our name.  They should face their campaign and allow INEC to do its job. If they think they want to distract us, they are wasting their time.”

The Ondo APC called on security agencies to investigate the activities of the INEC officials in the state.

The party also asked INEC to call its officials in Ondo state to order, adding that the people want a free and fair election.

Meanwhile, the Youth Initiative for Advocacy Growth and Advancement (YIAGA) has also urged INEC to block any loophole that could compromise the integrity of the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
