Senate ready to receive petitions against nominees

Though Senator Anyanwu further revealed that no member of the public had formally submitted any petition against any of the ministerial nominees, the petitions are said to be welcomed by the Senate.

 

Speculations are rife that petitions are been prepared by different individuals to throw spanner in the wheel of some ministerial nominees.

According to a report by The Punch Newspaper, the senate has revealed its readiness to start receiving petitions from Tuesday, October 6, 2015 after it must have been officially revealed by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

The report further revealed that the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, made this revelation on Friday, October 2, 2015.

In the words of Anyanwu, “We have not been receiving petitions from members of the public obviously because the list of ministerial nominees has not been officially unveiled by the senate president.

'I think the petitions will start coming in as from next Tuesday after Nigerians would have known the nominees,' he said.

There are further speculations that politicians from All Progressive Congress controlled states as well as Peoples Democratic Party-controlled states have perfected plans to oppose some of thee ministerial nominees.

Some of the nominees who reportedly made the list include ex-Governors, Babatunde Fashola; Dr. Kayode Fayemi; Chris Ngige; Ogbonaya Onu and an ex-finance commissioner in Ogun State, Kunle Adeosun.

Others include A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Malami Abubakar; a former governorship candidate, Aisha Alhassan; and a special adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed.
