‘We didn’t bring Obanikoro back to implicate governor,’ EFCC says

Fayose said that Obanikoro was brought back as part of project “Fayose must be implicated at all cost.”

Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Fayose had earlier alleged that Obanikoro had been brought back to the country as part of project “Fayose must be implicated at all cost.”

“Let me make it clear that we did not bring the man from the United States of America to be used as a witness against any of the suspects we are investigating in respect of the looting of the $2.1 billion arms cash scandal,” an EFCC source told Leadership.

“No two cases we are investigating are the same and it must be made clear that Obanikoro’s case has nothing to do with any other person being investigated by the commission.

“The truth of the matter is that we are just beginning the investigation of Obanikoro and evidence adduced from the probe will determine our next move against him,” he added.

Obanikoro had earlier revealed that he gave $5,377,000 in cash to Fayose for the June 2014 elections in Ekiti.

The former minister has also reportedly promised to refund N758 million in stolen funds.

Obanikoro is alleged to have received N4.45billion from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki who’s being investigated over the $2 billion arms deal fraud.
