The Kaduna State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the victory of Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the April 11, 2015 polls.

The ruling was delivered on Thursday, October 15, 2015, by the Chairman of the panel, Justice Adebara.

The Tribunal also dismissed the petition raised by All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Polycarp Danladi who had alleged that irregularities occurred during the elections.

Danladi had urged the tribunal to annul the election and order a re-run saying that the polls were characterized by over voting and did not comply with the Electoral Act.

“… The first respondent’s election cannot be invalidated, because he still has the highest number of total valid votes cast and is more than enough to be return elected,’’ the tribunal held.

“I therefore dismissed the petition and affirmed the declaration of the first respondent by INEC as the winner of the April 11 governorship election in Kaduna state,’’ it added.

El-Rufai contested the elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
