‘We will expose ex-governor’s atrocities in court,’ Rivers PDP vows

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dared former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi to proceed with his law suit against the party saying that it would expose his atrocities in court.

Amaechi has instituted a N300 billion defamation suit against the Rivers PDP and its Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah over allegations that he embezzled state funds during his tenure.

“The litigation threat is diversionary in the light of shocking revelations, testimonies and discoveries of acts of lawlessness, fraudulent and injudicious spending of state resources by him (Amaechi) while in office being witnessed before the Commission of Inquiry into the Sale of Valued Assets of the State by his administration for which he was invited. But he refused to appear to defend himself,” Obuah, speaking through his media aide, Jerry Needam, said.

“While not wishing to join issues with Amaechi until he makes real his boast by serving the processes of the said suit on the PDP and those he claimed he sued, the party would not be deterred by threats of litigation neither will it be intimidated by anybody, let alone Mr. Amaechi that should be apologizing to the Rivers people for running the state aground for eight years.

The intended lawsuit by Amaechi, if true, will offer the party the opportunity to expose to the whole world the atrocities committed by the former governor, for them to adjudge whether Amaechi is corrupt or a saint as he is hoodwinking those who do not know him very well to believe,” Obuah added.

Amaechi launched the suit after the Rivers PDP alleged in August that he had stolen $757million from the state’s coffers.

The former governor has also been severally accused of corruption by his successor, Nyesom Wike who instituted a judicial panel to probe his predecessor’s administration.

Amaechi however refused to appear before the panel terming it as illegal.
