Controversial non-profit website, Wikileaks has published theĀ  hundreds of thousands of emails and documents from a cyber-attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment last year.

BBC reports that the archive apparently includes Sony conversations with the British government and Hollywood figures.

Meanwhile Sony has strongly condemned the release of the confidential correspondence saying in a statement:

"We vehemently disagree with WikiLeaks' assertion that this material belongs in the public domain''

But website founder, Julian Assange, who is currently seeking refuge at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London after being accused of rape and sexual assault, has justified the publication saying the documents show the inner functioning of a multinational company and are "at the centre of a geo-political conflict".

Weeks before Sony was set to release a film about a fictional American plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un,Sony Pictures suffered a serious hack which saw hundreds of controversial emails between Sony Pictures and Hollywood heavyweights released.

North-Korea was heavily suspected in the attack but the country denied involvement in the attack. They however praised it as a "righteous deed".

Reports say the Wikileaks dump includes more than 170,000 emails and over 20,000 documents.
