Court approves warrant for arrest of South Korean ex-president

Park had herself before the court earlier and the prosecutors requested her arrest on Monday, after having spent 14 hours interrogation.

South Korea's ousted president Park Geun-Hye (front) arrives for questioning on her arrest warrant at the Seoul Central District Court in Seoul on March 30, 2017

It said Park was facing charges of bribery, coercion, abuse of power and disclosure of state secrets.

Park, 65, is South Korea’s first female president.

She was impeached by the National Assembly in December.

She was charged with colluding with close friend, Choi Soon Sil, to extort money from top South Korean companies and allowing her confidante to interfere with state affairs.

The impeachment removed the immunity that protected Park from criminal prosecution.
