First edition of the Pan-African debate to hold in Abidjan

The event will not only be the first organised by Le Monde outside of France, but also the first international public conference devoted to the discussion of ideas in francophone African countries.

 

Le Monde, one of the most respected editorial organisation in the world will be bringing together, renowned African personalities, French and International experts for a 2-day debate of ideas on the growth of the African continent between September 10th and 11th 2015 in Abidjan.

The first edition which is themed ‘Africa, The Future Of The World’ will revolve debates on the the three engines of African growth likely to take control of the raw materials to ensure the take-off of the continent: The youth entrepreneurial ethos, The cities of tomorrow and The African creativity.

According to Jerome Fenoglio, director of Le Monde, "with the Debates of the World Africa, we want to be at the heart of the debate of ideas on the growth of the African continent. "

The editorial manager of Le Monde Africa says, the event will clearly offer participants, especially youths the opportunity to meet with inspiring and influential individuals from all horizons.

"Offer to the participants, and especially to young people the opportunity to meet with inspiring and influential individuals, coming from all horizons", explains Serge Michel, editorial manager of Le Monde Africa.

The debates and meetings, led by the journalists of the World, will be open to the public, but will require registration.

President of Côte d'Ivoire, His excellency Alassane Ouattara will give the welcome note and also speak to young entrepreneurs, creators, experts, as well as personalities.

Also in attendance will be FrenchEconomist Thomas Piketty, CEO of Orange Stephane Richard, Prime Minister of Benin Lionel Zinsou, The historian Achille Mbembe, the new president of the African Development Bank Akin Adesina, Musician Rokia Traoré or essayist, prospective specialist Jeremy Rifkin.

The event will not only be the first organised by Le Monde outside of France, but also the first international public conference devoted to the discussion of ideas in francophone African countries.

With more than 1,000 people expected each day, the 2-day event will mark the beginning of the cycle of meetings organized by Le Monde Africa, which will be held alternately in France and in Africa, in several capitals of the continent, which will be directed to the youth.

The event will be held at the Palais des Congress of the Hotel Ivoire, Boulevard Hassan-II, in Abidjan.
