The mother of the 2 children whose bodies were found in a freezer in a Detroit home has been charged with murder.

35-year old Mitchelle Angela Blair was charged with murdering her 13-year-old daughter, Stoni Ann Blair, and her 9-year-old son, Stephen Gage Berry, CNN reports.

The corpses of the 2 children had been found wrapped in a plastic bag inside a freezer in Blair's home by a bailiff evicting her from the house. Though at home at the time of the discovery, she was later arrested on child abuse charges at another location.

Blair has been charged with 2 counts of premeditated murder, each of which carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole if convicted, and also with 2 counts of torture.

Autopsy results have however not been issued by the county medical examiner, but the prosecutor believes the children have been dead for about 2 years.

In addition to the deceased children, Blair has a 17-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son that were living with her, and has also been charged with 4 counts of felony child abuse and 1 count of committing child abuse first degree in the presence of another child.

Both children have meanwhile been placed in protective custody, this is according to Wayne County, Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
