141 dead in Taliban school attack

132 schoolchildren and nine teachers are said to have died in the army-run school in Peshawar after members of the Pakistani Taliban stormed the facility.

A terrorist attack on a Pakistani school yesterday, December 16, has left 141 people dead, the country’s military says.

132 schoolchildren and nine teachers are said to have died in the army-run school in Peshawar after members of the Pakistani Taliban stormed the facility.

Several other people were left injured in the attack which has been described as the Taliban's deadliest in Pakistan.

17-year-old Shahrukh Khan, who survived the attack, told the BBC how he witnessed his friends being shot, one in the head and one in the chest.

The invasion was carried out by seven militants, all of whom have reportedly been killed by the army.

The Afghan branch of the Taliban has condemned the attack saying, through spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, that “the intentional killing of innocent people, children and women are against the basics of Islam and this criteria has to be considered by every Islamic party and government.”

US President Barack Obama in his response said that terrorists had "once again shown their depravity" while UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said it was "an act of horror and rank cowardice".
