No fewer than eight workers died when a portion of a building under construction collapsed in the western Indian city of Pune on Friday.

Police and firemen were clearing rubble and looking for more workers who may still be trapped.

A concrete slab on the 14th floor of the building came crashing down, injuring three more labourers, area police officer Shashikant Shinde said.
"Most of the labourers working on the top floor of the building were trapped in the rubble.
"Eight of them died on the scene, three more have been hospitalised with injuries,’’ Shinde said.
