A shooting incident in Lille,  northern France, near the border with Belgium, has left three people injured, Mirror UK reports.

Following the incident which occurred on the night of Friday, March 24, Armed police have sealed off streets near the Porte d'Arras Metro station at around 9.45pm.

Report says although the drive-by shooting may be linked to criminal gangs, the proximity to a train station and armed police response has sparked fears of terrorism.

Those injured, including a 14-year-old, are being hospitalised, and are not in a life-threatening condition, the report said.

The identity of the shooters have not been determined.

France has suffered a string of Islamist terror attacks during the past 12 months.

The shooting also followed Thursday's terror attack in London which left five people dead including the attacker.
