Govt says crashed Russian plane not caused by bomb

The minister's comments came after Britain said that a Russian passenger plane may well have been brought down by an explosive device on board.

Kremlin: No grounds yet to name cause of Russian plane crash in Egypt

Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister, Hossam Kamal said on Thursday all Egyptian airports were tightly secured and international safety standards applied.

"All Egyptian airports undergo periodical examinations by the Egyptian civil aviation authority and international inspection authorities", Kamal said.

He also said investigations were still going on and that there was no evidence that confirmed the hypothesis.

All 224 passengers and crew onboard the aircraft died in the crash in Sinai.

The United States of America on its part said it had not made its own determination about the cause of a Russian passenger jet crash in Egypt, despite Britain saying a bomb likely caused the incident.

"We haven't made own determination, however, we can't rule anything out, including the possibility of terrorist involvement’’, White House spokesman, Josh Earnest said.

US officials were looking at possible additional security on some US-bound flights, but had not yet made any decisions, Earnest added.
