Co-pilot's girlfriend: 'I didn't know the extent of his psychological problems'

The girlfriend of Andreas Lubitz, the co-pilot who crashed the Germanwings flight 9525 has said that she knew he had psychological problems but "didn't know the extent of the problems".

According to CNN, a European government official briefed on the crash investigation said the girlfriend told investigators the couple were working through the issues together and "were optimistic" they could solve the problems.

The source further said she was just as surprised as everyone else by what he did and mentioned that she knew Lubitz had been to see 2 doctors.

Further revealed by the source was the fact that the doctors, an eye doctor and neuropsychologist, had deemed him unfit to work recently, both arriving at the conclusion that he had psychological issues.

Reports say Lubitz complained about vision problems and had gone to see an eye doctor, who had diagnosed a psychosomatic disorder and had given him an "unfit for work" note.

Investigators are then looking at the theory of Lubitz being afraid his medical condition would cause him to lose his pilot's license which would have been unbearable for him owing to his love for flying.

Reports also say the primary motive for Lubitz to bring down the plane was that he feared he would not be allowed to fly because of his medical problems.
