An Accra Circuit circuit has sentenced medical Doctor Ali Gabass to twenty five years imprisonment for defiling a child under 16 years.

According to the ruling by the judge Mrs Agyemang Budu, the prosecution in the case provided substantial evidence which included the number of times the victim and the accused met under the cover of darkness to prove the guilt of the Dr. Gabass on the charge of defilement.

The judge however dismissed and acquitted Dr. Gabass of the charge of unnatural carnal knowledge. She further indicated that her decision to give the maximum sentence was to deter others from engaging in the act.

Dr. Gabass who has been in prison custody since June 2014 was charged with defiling a boy under 16 years and unnatural carnal knowledge, an offence he pleaded not guilty to.

He is alleged to have had unnatural carnal knowledge of the victim aged 15 in the months of October 2013 and April 2014 at Kasoa and Alajo in the process infecting him with the deadly HIV disease.

Lawyers for Dr Gabass attempt to stop the trial hit a snag as the court threw out his submission of no case.
