Police will deal with war mongers - Supt. Cephas Arthur warns

The Ghana Police Service have assured of their willingness to deal with anyone whose conduct will compromise the freedom and fairness of the December 7 polls.

The Police will deal sternly with politicians who cause mayhem before, during and after the December 7 polls, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service Superintendent Cephas Arthur has warned.

He noted that the police have identified 5,000 flash points in the country, which according to Supt. Arthur are prone to issues such as murder, robbery, chieftaincy related conflicts among others.

Supt. Arthur believes that the country will come out of the elections safely if Ghanaians abide by the rules and regulations governing the country.

He therefore called on Ghanaians not to partake in activities which will compromise the peace the country is currently enjoying.

“Our pepper sprays, tear gas, cannons and other accoutrements are ready to be unleashed on election wreckers who will steal ballot boxes,” he said.

“Citizens should channel all their grievances to the appropriate quarters than taking the law into their own hands,” he advised.

DSP Cephas Arthur, who spoke on Kumasi-based Abusua FM, called on journalists to be circumspect in their reportage before, during and after the election.

He guaranteed that his outfit is poised to protect and maintain peace in the country during this electioneering season.

“We will ensure that the election is peaceful, just like that of 2012. We will deepen security in all areas, but we are appealing to the National Peace Council, Journalists, National Media Commission (NMC), citizens and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to help promote peace ahead of the elections,” he assured Ghanaians.
