Twitter is indeed on a roll with ‘lengthy’ features , starting with the maximum character count for a single tweet it just increased from its signature 140 to 280.

This is coming amidst backlashes the company has been receiving from its community of users over a number of issues.

Now you can add your middle names and spice things up with emojis if you like.

The character count now goes up from a maximum 20 to now 50 characters. Twitter however notes this won’t apply to the @usernames which is up to 15 characters long.

What's even the difference between a Twitter user name and a display name?

Your username appears in your profile URL and is unique to you. It's used for logging in, replies, and Direct Messages.

Your display name is a personal identifier (sometimes a business name or real name) displayed in your profile page and used to identify you to friends, especially if your username is something other than your name or business name.

How to make the change of display name

To change your display name, head on over to your profile, tap on ‘Edit Profile’ on the right side of your page, and then click on your current name.

This development should serve people with very long names. In some languages and cultures, names often go past 20 characters.
