President's Twitter account shut down for 11 minutes by departing employee

Twitter has been under heavy criticism for apparently showing bias to President Trump's tweets which clearly violate the site's abuse rules.

This act was reportedly carried out by a Twitter employee who was leaving the company.

Twitter spokesperson said the company was looking into the situation. It was still unclear who the employee was, how that employee got access to the president's account and whether any security breaches led to the subsequent deactivation.

Though the account has since come back, Trump is yet to comment on the matter. Instead the next tweet that came from him was to formally introduce his nominee candidate for chairman of the US Federal Reserve.

“A lot” of employees can suspend a user’s account, a former senior Twitter employee told Buzzfeed. But far fewer -- only hundreds -- have the power to deactivate one

Trump himself has yet to tweet about his account's brief absence. Instead, he posted other messages including the nomination of Jerome Powell as the next chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Trump lately has been in the news recently for violating Twitter abuse rules and getting away with it, “because it is ‘newsworthy”.

Twitter was sure to make light of the incidence.

But some quarters don't see it as no trivial matter.  The National Archives has advised Trump to preserve all tweets as presidential records, while a professor at the U.S. Naval War College is worried that U.S. enemies could be using Trump's tweets to build a psychological profile of the president, The Post's Avi Selk reported.

Recent tweets by Trump about North Korea have stirred up tensions, such as one where Trump threatened that " they won't be around much longer."

In the past, North Korea has also responded to the US president's tweets as declaration of war.
