The NCC is taking its gospel to the campuses of Nigeria’s universities

The idea is to use the platform to push the NCC message in various campuses across the country.

Held at the university’s Julius Berger Hall, the program, tagged “Consumer Conversations: Campus Voices,” is part of the NCC’s Year of the Telecom Consumer campaign but with a focus on the academic community.

Represented at the event by Kenneth Uzoekwe, Controller of the NCC’s Lagos Zonal Office, Umar Danbatta (Head of the NCC) restated the reason for the NCC’s Year of the Telecom Consumer campaign.

The NCC boss said the regulator is trying to amplify its regulatory duties with the aim of improving the telecom consumer’s experience.

For his part, Uzoekwe, an engineer, talked to the students about Electromagnetic Fields (EMF), radiation emitted from Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), an issue which has attracted a lot of controversy and misinformation amongst the general public.

This event also served as the launch of the NCC’s Campus Voices aspect of its Consumer Conversations programme. The idea is to use the platform to push the NCC message in various campuses across the country — an initiative that should help the regulator ramp up its sensitization efforts.

By tapping into the university community, the NCC is taking an approach not often considered by other regulatory agencies and government institutions to spread its messages to a largely uninformed Nigerian populace.
