The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has come out to deny ownership of the unpopular Twitter handle @DefenseMonitor.

The handle up until it was suspended by Twitter after being flagged down by the Nigerian government, was mischievously tweeting provocative content about how it was going to infringe on Nigerians’ rights of expression online.

The Director Defence Information (DDI) Maj. Gen John Enenche has said in a statement that they are out to catch the perpetrators who were using the Defence logo and impersonating the agency.

“ The DHQ thereby calls on patriotic citizens of our nation to disregard the Twitter account and ignore the tweets while the effort is underway to track the perpetrator of this heinous act.

The official Twitter handle of the Defence Headquarters is @DefenceInfoNG which is a verified account. People are advised to be conscious of increase in the number of fraudsters who will go at any length to misrepresent the military and its institutions, sometimes using such a channel to swindle innocent members of the public

Please be guided.” The DDI said.

A Digital advocacy rights and social enterprise organization Paradigm Initiative earlier expressed concern over the defence headquarter’s silence over the suspended sinister Twitter handle, bothering on how the military was planning to kill off hate speech from any Nigerian.

With this development, they can now be rest assured.
