Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the social media network has activated the safety check on its website following the bomb blast in Yola, Adamawa State yesterday.

Facebook came under heavy criticism for a supposed western bias after it activated the safety check following the recent terror attacks in Paris, France with critics noting that the platform had not deemed it fit to activate the feature when terror attacks had previously taken place in the Middle East, and other parts of the world.

The safety check is a feature that gives Facebook users the ability to announce that they are still alive after an incident in a troubled zone via the platform.
