A Conceptual Creative en route Picassodom

Meet Kayode Olowu. A Conceptual Creative, a Graphic Designer, with an itch for creative solutions that are bold, visually interesting and beneficial to a brand’s bottom line.

A University of Ibadan Microbiology student is placed in charge of a publicity team in school for an event. This will obviously include everything from banners and flyers.

At the graphic designer’s office, he watches unimpressed as the designer creates something just not…good. Although he has never designed anything in his life, he says to the designer, “this is not good enough”. And the designer gives him that don’t-teach-me-my-job look. He decides to show it can be done better, and thus began the journey of this student into the world of creative solutions and designing dreams.

Meet Kayode Olowu. A Conceptual Creative, a graphic designer, with an itch for creative solutions that are bold, visually interesting and beneficial to a brand’s bottom line.

And there’s proof.

He has worked with major brands, from Chupa Chups, the candy we grew up loving, to UNICEF, another brand we’ve come to recognise for their impact in the world. In between, you’d find brands like Bose Speakers, Ecko Unltd, IKEA, and lots more.

At arguably the best Ad school in the world, the Miami Ad School, where he mastered his art, he received the Silver Star Jury Prize in 2013.

Since then, he has cupped several other awards and recognitions, including being a finalist for Luezer’s Archive’s Student of The Year. Bear in mind that Luezer’s Archive is the World Cup of Graphic Design.

Yep. It’s that major.

Most recently, one of his works grabbed a bronze award at what it’s safe to call the Grammy of Design in Germany, the Art Directors’ Club (ADC) Awards.

From his current base in Hamburg, Germany, where he drowns himself in creativity and Ice-cream, he works as a creative for Jung Von Matt, a leading agency in Europe with a fantastic global reputation and clientele (Mercedes Benz, Vodafone Germany, Edeka & Nivea), based in Hamburg Germany.

With so much hanging on his wall and even more up his sleeves, one will only wonder, when this wind of change that has swept across Nigeria, will sweep across the world and bring him, and many more like him, back home.
