Africa's first dual fronting-facing camera phone just launched

Infinix Mobility also debuted Runtown as its product face for the Infinix S2 and S2 Pro devices in what is the singer’s first collaboration with a tech brand.

Popular Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Infinix launched a new S2 smartphone line yesterday at the Protea Hotel in Ikeja. It also presented “Mad Over You” singer Runtown as the face of the new product.

The event kicked off around 2:30pm with Olamide Amosu, Comms and PR lead at Infinix Nigeria, kicking off proceedings. From her talk, the biggest feature of the Infinix S2 and its bigger, better-specced S2 Pro is a first-of-its-kind-in-Africa front-facing dual camera system.

The S2 replaces the HOT S on Infinix’s lifestyle range of devices. Apart from the 13MP + 8MP dual front camera with flash (just 8MP on the S2), its got a 5.2-inch HD (down from FHD on the previous generation — HOT S) IPS screen, 3000mAh battery pack, an octa-core processor that clocks in at 1.3GHz, 2GB RAM (3GB on the S2 Pro), fast charge capability and an internal memory capacity of 32GB (16GB in the regular S2).

Infinix Mobility also debuted Runtown as its product face for the Infinix S2 and S2 Pro devices in what is the singer’s first collaboration with a tech brand. The OEM has also coined the term “Wefie” as an hommage to the wide-angle dual camera system on the S2 Pro. I will have to test that to be sure of its true capabilities.

The S2 is currently available for purchase on Jumia for 63, 000 Naira. The S2 Pro will be available in the coming weeks and we have a unit to review. Watch for the unboxing and first impressions article on the S2 Pro.
