14-year-old teenager arrested for homemade 'bomb' clock gets invited to the White House by US President Obama

Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, also reached out to the teenager, with an offer to meet him.

After 14 year old Ahmed Mohammed's arrest, there was an outpour of criticism on social media with President Barack Obama showing support for the Sudanese American teenager

Yesterday, a 14-year-old Muslim boy was arrested in Texas, US, for bringing a homemade clock to school.

Officials at the MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas had alerted police because they thought the device was a “hoax bomb”.

However, Ahmed Mohammed’s arrest has been sharply criticized in mainstream media and especially across all social media platforms, with an outpouring of support including an invitation to the White House.

Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, also reached out to the teenager, with an offer to meet him.

In addition to those, he has also been offered a lifetime membership in the Dallas Electronics Club, a scholarship to Space Camp, a tour of MIT CSAIL lab (computer science and artificial intelligence), a space-flown NASA shirt from astronaut Daniel Tani, and even an internship offer from Twitter.

Texas Police has since released the teenager and will not be pressing charges. Speaking at a press conference, Ahmed told reporters that it was “very sad” that his teacher thought his clock was a threat.

Ahmed, whose father is originally from Sudan, also announced that he will be changing schools and thank everyone who supported him for their support.
