Osun government allegedly seals telcos office over N532m tax
The action was taken, because the telecom giant refused to pay the N532m tax it owed the state government.
Punch reports that the action was taken, because the telecom giant refused to pay the N532m tax it owed the state government.
According to the OSIRS Chairman, Mr. Dayo Oyebanji,“Before this time, the state government had been lenient with the Globacom because of the importance of their business to both the people and the government.
“We engaged them in a series of meetings with the assistance of the House Committee on Communication but we have yet to get reasonable response from the company.”
He also said “It is only the Globacom Limited that we are sealing because others, especially those invited by the assembly, have responded to our calls. It is only the Globacom that has not shown up. They have been giving one excuse or the other.”
Oyebanji said Globacom refused to pay the money, despite the promise its officials made to the Osun House of Assembly, when they were summoned.
Globacom (Glo) is a privately owned indigenous telecommunications carrier that started operations on 29 August 2003.
