There have been reports that Apple wants to remove the iPhone’s home button in favour of a simple front display - now it turns out that the iPad might be the first device to undergo this immense change.

Apple fan site, 9to5mac spotted a report from Macotakara, a Japanese blog, that claims that Apple’s upcoming 10.9-inch iPad will not feature a physical home button - instead the company could incorporate the home button’s functions beneath the display glass. This means that the Apple could fit a larger screen into the same footprint as the 9.7 inch iPad Pro.

Macotakara - which has a very impressive track record when it comes to Apple hardware rumours - also claims that the new iPad will have thinner bezels which imply one thing - it will be much thicker than expected; around 7.5 millimetres thick, according to the Japanese blog.

The next edition of the iPad is expected to hit stores as early as the first half of 2017 and should help users get familiar with the new design before the new iPhone drops much later.
