'Some people are plotting to assassinate me,' Gov alleges

The Governor said he has written to the Inspector General of Police on the matter, claiming the IG did not take any action.

Wike said the task to kill him was given to two policemen, but he did not disclose those behind the plot.

The allegation is coming few days to the December 10 legislative re-run election.

The Governor disclosed this on Sunday, December 4, during an interview on Channels TV.

Wike expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will sweep the polls, adding that Rivers is not Ondo or Edo State where the PDP lost.

He said: "Rivers State is not Ondo State. It is not Edo State. If you have taken the history, you will know. Where are they going to come from?

"Except they kill everybody and I know that they cannot kill everybody. There will be those that will remain.

"Just like they have boasted that they are going to assassinate me."

On the alleged plan to assassinate him, he said, "an Instruction has been given to two police officers to make sure and that nothing will happen.

"I have written to the IG [Inspector General of Police] several times and the IG will not listen."

He said those that have given the order for him to be assassinated have boasted that nothing will happen after he has been killed.

"I am letting you know that for my party, politics is not a do-or-die affair.

"For me the election is not a must win. It is not a do-or-die affair, but I will protect the people’s votes," he said.

Wike dismissed said that the PDP had used Federal might in the past, arguing that the party could have won elections in other states if that was the case.
