Rivers Governor warns FG

The Governor also told his supporters that he will be contesting the verdict of the court of appeal at the Supreme court.

Governor Nyesom Wike

The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has warned the Federal Government not to interfere with the upcoming National Assembly re-run elections.

According to Leadership Newspapers, Wike said “I want to warn, let nobody attempt to do what happened in Bayelsa State here. Since they said they have annulled the elections, let them come and conduct fresh elections.

“Let nobody think that they can use soldiers and policemen to intimidate us. We will resist any such attempt. We have maintained our cool for a long time. Our calmness should not be mistaken as a sign of weakness.”

Adding that  “We shall return all our National Assembly members as a way to disgrace those who think they will snatch the mandate of the people.”

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja recently upheld the decision of the state election petition tribunal which nullified Wike’s victory in the April 11, 2015 elections, and ordered him to vacate office immediately.

Dakuku Peterside, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Rivers State,  has since commended the Court of Appeal for upholding the decision of the state elections petition tribunal.
