‘Amaechi left empty treasury,’ Governor insists

Amaechi earlier claimed that he left N10 billion in the state treasury but Wike denied this saying that his predecessor has no evidence of such funds.

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi and incumbent, Nyesom Wike

The war of words between Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his predecessor Rotimi Amaechi continues as Wike has insisted that Amaechi left behind an empty treasury.

The governor stated this on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, while speaking during the Civil Service Day award celebration in Port Harcourt.

Wike said:

“If there was any truth in his (Amaechi) claim that he left the sum of N10bn, why was he unable to pay civil servants, pensioners, refuse disposal contractors for more than three months?”

“Why was it that our children could not write their examinations while those on foreign scholarship were stranded because of the state’s indebtedness?”

Wike has set up a panel to probe Amaechi’s administration but the former governor has said that he will not appear before it because it is illegal.
