PDP elected Uche Secondus as new party chairman during its national convention.
The former acting chairman of the party beat three other contestants to emerge chairman.
Secondus was heavily backed by Governors led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Chairman of the electoral committee, Gabriel Suswam, declared that Secondus polled 2,000 votes out of a total vote tally of 2,296, to emerge chairman.
Former minister of education, Tunde Adeniran, got 231 votes while former AIT Chairman Raymond Dokpesi ended up with 66 votes.
Candidates for the position of chairman had pulled out of the contest one after the other, ahead of voting.
Jimi Agbaje, Bode George, Gbenga Daniel and a host of others had pulled out of the contest, citing attempts to rig the vote by a powerful bloc of PDP Governors.
On voting day, a list called 'Unity List' made the rounds among delegates.
The unity list stated which candidate should be voted for in the different National Working Committee (NWC) positions.
A host of contestants at the convention said the election was neither free nor fair.
