Governors divided over Saraki's leadership in Senate

There strong indications that the governors, after meeting on Thursday, July 30, 2015 in Abuja, failed to take a decision on how to resolve the crisis rocking the Senate.

 

There are reports that the All Progressives Congress governors are divided over the current crisis rocking the political party caucus in the Senate.

There strong indications that the governors, after meeting on Thursday, July 30, 2015 that stretched till early hours of Friday, July 31, 2015 in Abuja, failed to take a decision on how to resolve the crisis rocking the Senate.

According to a report by The Punch, the governors were divided and are yet to decide over how the crisis should be handled.

While some of the governors argued that the Senate President, should apologise to the party at a meeting to include its leadership and members of the aggrieved sides, others insisted that the governors should wait for the decision of the before making the reconciliatory move.

The report further alleged that the governors, who canvassed for a quick resolution of the crisis, were some of the Senate President's loyalists.

The governors, who were said to have included Aminu Tambuwal , reportedly warned that any delay in resolving the crisis would impact negatively on the party.

However, Kaduna State Governor, alongside other governors insisted that the forum should wait for the decision of the justice ministry on the forgery of the Senate Standing Orders. The governors argued that Saraki twice violated the constitution and defied the party’s leadership.

The Chairman of the PGF, Rochas Okorocha, after the meeting early on Friday, said peace would soon return to the Senate.

'We are very happy about the development in the House of Representatives as peace is gradually returning to the National Assembly.

'We are very happy that what has taken place in the Federal House of Representatives will soon take place in the Senate and we resolved to make our party bigger and bigger than it is now. So, we welcome interested parties to join us in building the Nigeria of our dreams,' Okorocha said.

The meeting, which started at 9:13pm at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja was attended by 14 governors and two deputy governors, as well as the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
