‘Assembly leaders welcome to join PDP,’ Party says

Saraki and Dogara are currently facing disciplinary action from the APC due to their contesting the Assembly elections, an act which was in clear defiance of the party leadership's instructions.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki and House of Reps Speaker, Yakubu Dogara

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the newly-elected Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara would be welcome into its fold should they decide to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Abdullahi Jalo, stated, while speaking to Punch on Saturday, June 13, 2015, that the party would gladly welcome Saraki, Dogara and their supporters into its midst.

“The PDP is open to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (former Governor of Lagos State and national leader, APC); Bisi Akande (former Governor of Osun State and ex-National Chairman, APC, Chief) and any other persons in the ruling APC,” Jalo said.

“The former Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal (now Governor of Sokoto State) left and the party did not sanction him, unlike the APC that is threatening Saraki with sanctions,” he added.

The APC had chosen Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as its sole candidates for the positions but Saraki and Dogara went ahead to contest and win the elections.

Saraki has however said that he has no intentions of returning to the PDP, which he defected from in 2014.
