Rita Maduagwu Speaker reportedly flee State Assembly with mace to avoid impeachment

Rt. Hon Rita Maduagwu, the speaker of Anambra House of Assembly has reportedly fled the chambers with the mace –the symbol of authority- to avoid impeachment.

According to a report by Punch Newspaper, Rt Hon Maduagwu’s actions created confusion at the Assembly on Thursday, 6 April 2017.

It was further reported that before the speaker created the scene, no fewer than 28 members of the house had assembled at the hallowed chamber for the business of the day.

After the speaker absconded, the majority leader, Victor Okoye was forced to call for the adjournment of the house to Tuesday, April 11, 2017.

The state governor, Willie Obiano had reportedly visited the House of Assembly complex to calm frayed nerves, but met a determined 28 lawmakers who were bent n impeaching the speaker.

The 28 members of the house were reportedly members of the All Progressive Grand Alliance.
