“My joy is that the people are ready to celebrate democracy”

Oshiomhole made the comment on Wednesday, September 28, in relation to the peaceful governorship elections in Edo.

“My joy is that the people are ready to celebrate democracy,” he told journalists after voting in Iyamo in the Edo North Senatorial District, according to The Nation.

All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate, Phillip Shuaibu also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the elections.

“The exercise shows that INEC is prepared with the orderly manner the election is going. I think they did well, because the election was well conducted. I am particularly impressed by card readers, which is very fast today,” Shuaibu said.

“We thank God for giving us a favourable weather, which makes everybody to come out and vote. My political units, has been peaceful despite various threats from the PDP.

“We are a proponent of one-man-one-vote. As far as crusade of one-man-one-vote is concerned today, it was initiated and launched in Edo State by Governor Adams Oshiomhole. And every other place that the issues of one-man-one-vote is being canvassed in this country, you must make reference to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and APC,” he added.

Meanwhile, INEC has postponed the announcement of results in the state for unknown reasons.

The major contenders in the election are Godwin Obaseki of the APC and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
