Nigeria decides as Presidential elections hold

The Presidential elections hold in all 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory – the outcome will affect the whole of the African continent.

 

It’s a special day in Nigeria today, March 28, 2016 – citizens in West Africa’s most populous country have waited for six weeks to decide who will lead them for the next four years.

The incumbent Goodluck Jonathan under the political umbrella of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is facing his strongest challenge from former military leader and Muhammadu Buhari who is running for the fourth time,

Buhari is running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party bent of overthrowing the ruling party (PDP) who has dominated Aso Rock since 1999.

The polls open at 7AM – Nigerians are already trooping out in numbers to cast their votes.

“I will vote this morning, I didn’t vote last time. We must see change in this country, I will vote for Buhari”, a young lady, Bukola who resides in Aguda tells Pulse.

“Goodluck for me and my family, let him stay for another four years please”, Chuka, a resident in Iyana Ipaja tells Pulse

A day to the elections, Buhari and Jonathan signed an agreement to prevent violence, during and after the elections.

The current issues Nigeria is facing are security, economy instability, oil, regional rivalry and infrastructure.

The two main presidential candidates have signed an agreement to prevent violence. during the election and its aftermath.
